The Cielos de Tarapacá project (CdT) is comprised of a 600 MW-AC photovoltaic solar plant with single-axis tracking, which allows it to follow the sun from east to west. The size of the plant is such that it will be amongst the largest solar plants in the world. The 1,650 hectare project site is located in Pintados, approximately 75 kilometers south east of Iquique, in the Tarapacá Region.
Cielos de Tarapacá can be a complement to Espejo de Tarapacá. This combination and integration will create the first large scale system in the world capable of producing solar energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, competing directly and without subsidies with thermoelectric generation.
